Drop In Practices
  • OBEDIENCE DROP-IN PRACTICE
    Come train your dog with plenty of distractions! Yes, our new home is kind of noisy. And the ring is not regulation width. But we're air conditioned(!) and someone will be there to provide distractions if desired, call some heeling, and even put out articles.

  • CONFORMATION RING READY DROP-IN PRACTICE
    Practice for experienced handlers who require a minimal amount of instruction. This will be a faster pace and dogs will be moved through the examination and movement process multiple times per session.

Conformation Classes

Showing your own dog? Learn and understand the basics. Our Conformation classes prepare both the handler and dog to compete successfully in the show ring at licensed dog shows. Handling is a process of trial and error and a lot of practice!  A conformation class will allow you to work on proper stacking, gaiting and presentation of your dog in the show ring.  Our Conformation Classes are available to puppies through adults, as well as the junior handler who is interested in exhibiting their own dog in the breed ring as well as in Junior Showmanship competition.

  • BEGINNER / NOVICE CONFORMATION CLASS
    This class covers handling methods, the structure of the dog, AKC rules and regulation, how to dress for the ring, judges patterns. This class is a must for a beginner handler. Pre-registration is required. Registration is on a first come basis. Dogs must be at least 4 months of age to attend. Please bring the following items to class.... Bait (preferrably small soft treats), Show lead and collar, Copy of your Breed Standard.

Obedience Classes
  • NOVICE OBEDIENCE CLASS
    This class is geared for those to pick up where “basic manners” left off enhancing your dog’s skills and possibly working toward competition at the novice level. Some knowledge of heeling, sits and downs is required. Class will advance based on the progress of each individual student. All levels of students will be accepted from beginning novice up to those ready to prepare for competition. We will work on: Attention, Heel on leash, Figure Eight, Stand for examination, Heel off leash, Recall to front position, Finish, Sit stay (1 minute), and Down stay (3 minutes).

    Prerequisite: Completion of a Manners class with recommendation for advancement to Novice or have related training and/or experience.

  • OBEDIENCE ADVANCED NOVICE
    This class is geared towards those dogs, and their handlers, who are training to compete in American Kennel Club (AKC) obedience competition trials and wish to attain the first obedience title of COMPANION DOG (CD). In this class your dog will work on perfecting the following excercises: Heel on and off-lead, including the figure-8 pattern, Stand for examination, Recall and return to the Finish position, Sit-stay in a group for 1 minute, Down-stay in a group for 3 minutes.

    Prerequisite: Novice class with a substantial degree of skill in the novice exercises or have related training and/or experience.

  • OPEN OBEDIENCE CLASS
    All open level exercises in accordance with AKC regulations will be taught. This class is for those dogs that are working in competition obedience towards their advanced titles. In this class your dog will learn to:  Drop on recall, Retrieving dumbbell, High jump, Broad jump, Heel off-lead, including the figure-8 pattern, Sit-stay in a group for 3 minute, with handler out of sight, Down-stay in a group for 5 minutes, with handler out of sight.

    Prerequisite: Substantial control over the Obedience essentials is necessary. A training pair should have legs on a CD or Advanced Rally before attempting this class.

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Classes

CGC training will enhance the bond between you and your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with-they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life.

  • CANINE GOOD CITIZEN CLASS (CGC/CGCA)
    This is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Your dog does not have to be purebred or AKC registered to qualify for the AKC CGC Certificate. Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test. Homeowners Insurance Available to Breeds Previously Excluded with CGC Certification.   • CANINE GOOD CITIZEN WITH ASSISTED THERAPY CLASS
    This Canine Good Citizen will be including equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs, plus additional attention to "greeting a friendly stranger" in a more controlled manner. Anyone is welcome to take the class even if they do not intend to do therapy visits. Class requirements: dog age over 12 months under 10 years Must have successfully completed a minimum of one obedience class. No previous history of dog or people aggression Evidence of current vaccinations must be provided (Rabies, DHPP & Bordetella plus negative fecal results).

    Prerequisite: Dog must have a CGC or BN Title or other appropriate obedience training.

Puppy Classes

  • AKC S.T.A.R. PUPPY(Socialization Training Activity Responsibility)
    The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class. This class will teach you how to best communicate with your puppy and provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs. You will also be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is the natural lead in to the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program. ALL dogs are welcome to participate in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program including purebreds and mixed breeds. Family Dog Classes

  • MANNERS FOR THE FAMILY DOG
    Have fun as you help your dog to become an enjoyable member of your family! Teach your dog "manners" and basic obedience skills for a happier dog and family. Learn attention, sit, down, stay, walking on a loose lead. Bring treats, 6 foot leash, proper footwear (no flipflops please).
